Auction – Pel Service
Number of People: 2
Budget: $0
Connect with Chairs, Conference Services to establish when the Pel Auction will take place. Find out, if you can, some of the offerings so you can use them to build up interest and bring conferees to the auction. You can make two or three announcements at meals before the auction to be sure people know it's happening and what some of the items are. The money raised is used to make life better for the Pels. People are usually eager to bid on things, so your job is to encourage them to come and to bid early and often for a very good cause.
If possible, try to get a complete list of items to be auctioned before the auction starts. Have it available for shoalers to see.
Make silent auction cards for people to bid on the items, and sit on the porch during the auction time, encouraging people to bid, or you can organize a live auction event at a particular time (see chairs and starboard scribe to establish a time if needed) Current Pels who have connections to our conference (Lily and Bennett in 2018) can be helpful in gathering auction items from various Pels, and have been great live auctioneers in the past.
Announce the winners of the servides and be sure that people pay for them. Money and checks should be put in an envelope and given to the pelican leadership. If needed, help make a connection between the purchaser and the Pel who offered the service, especially if they are a behind the scene pelican. It's easy to schedule a time to be a snackie for a day if you see them open; it's another to try and find the carpenters/painters/truck crew etc. Be a liason for anyone who is having trouble finding the pelican who is providing a service.
