The All Star II Quadrathlon is returning! Events will include running, rowing, swimming, and ???. This relay-style competition is a community tradition of pulling together, achieving goals, and having fun. Form your eight-person team as soon as possible. Each team must include one child under age 10, one adult over age 55, and 1 person not a family member. See Drew Martin.
Kids get ready for All Star II We Are the Boat Races! This is a week-long “Color Wars” style competition with prizes. You earn points for random acts of kindness, sportsmanship, field day, Quadrathlon, and others.
The Speaker: The First Amendment right to press freedom is a crucial element of the delicate balance of power in our democracy. Current political threats to that free flow of information make this week’s talks extremely timely. Speaker Jen Judson has been in the middle of the struggle for press access with the current administration. She is an award winning journalist, recent president of the National Press Club, and currently covers land warfare for Defense News. She will speak on press freedom, reporting on government, and the state of journalism today.
The volunteer groups will meet together on the front lawn following the orientation, except for Social Hour folks. Beer and wine servers meet with Social Hour Hostess Holly Erickson in the Stone Village at 4:30 (or as soon as the conference orientation is over.) Other Social Hour volunteers meet there at 5pm. If you are not involved in any of these meetings, enjoy some refreshments on the Front Porch and then go find your rooms and your bags. A welcome reception for New Shoalers and Young Adults will be held at 5pm on the Marshman Deck. Social Hour will be at 5:30 in the Stone Village, including nonalcoholic beverages. Friends of Bill may meet in the Pink Parlor. Babysitting for Nestlings and Skimmers will be at the Dragon Playground; Puffins and Gulls on the front lawn. After dinner, join the Marshmallow Roast--location to be determined by the wind; either the rocks below the Summer House or the rocks past the volleyball court. Musicians, please bring your instruments. Sunday at 9:30, the chairs will lead evening chapel.
